Welcome to New Edition!  If you want your written work to be appreciated for its sense and clarity, it’s best to have someone with an eye for detail ensure that writing errors don’t turn readers away.

I am a careful copy editor and proofreader, a sensitive style editor and I offer sage advice on style and structure for many forms of writing. Short stories, novels, non-fiction, blogs, documents, letters are all welcome. I am especially interested in helping beginning writers of any age. More experienced writers are, of course, also invited to contact me.

My work is based on four levels of editing: copy editing, stylistic editing, structural editing, and proofreading. (See definitions, below) These can be done separately or in combinations; all four can be combined as developmental editing, in which all four types are used to develop a writer’s work from the draft stage to a finished text that is ready for publication. Below are definitions of the three levels.

My fees are very low, compared to professional standards, but this is only because I am just beginning my business and need to build a client base. The amount will always depend on the length and complexity of each project, and can be negotiated.

Definitions of Editing Services

Copy Editing
Editing for grammar, spelling, punctuation and other mechanics of style; checking for consistency of mechanics and internal consistency of facts. I may also ask you about making changes, e.g., for the sake of clarity.

Stylistic Editing
Clarifying meaning, eliminating jargon (for instance, in business documents), smoothing language and other non-mechanical line-by-line editing. May include checking or correcting reading level (where your work is intended for a particular age group or professional level); negotiating changes with author. Whatever changes are needed may be done by me, with your agreement, or you may prefer that I write a commentary, in which I outline the changes to be made, so that you can correct your own work.

Substantive or Structural Editing
Advice on the structure of sentences, paragraphs, chapters, or whole books. This is done to help you focus your ideas and intentions and to improve the “readability” of your work.

Proofreading
This is the final check for errors before printing or digital publication, when there are no more major changes to be made.

I use PayPal for invoicing and receiving payments.
